PATNA: The district police have started the Republic Day preparations and the Gandhi Maidan will be sanitized by the dog squad and anti-sabotage team on regular basis till the celebration ends on January 26. Patna SSP Jitender Rana held a meeting with the police officials on Tuesday to discuss the security for the R-Day.
“In the wake of terrorist activities in different parts of India, we have pressed into service the dog squad and the anti-sabotage team today itself and it will continue till the celebration. We will install CCTV cameras for the first time inside the Gandhi Maidan premises during the celebration. We are in touch with the district administration regarding the opening of the gates,” the SSP said.
Around 1,000 policemen would be deployed in and around the Gandhi Maidan. Quick reaction teams would be deployed at the venue, bus and taxi stands, railway station and market places. The traffic SP has been asked to make a new traffic plan for the day.
It was decided to keep the parade arena of the venue out of bound for public between 8am and noon from Wednesday. The dress rehearsal will take place on January 24. The police will issue verification certificate to all the workers engaged in beautification and decoration of the venue. Patna police have made elaborate security arrangements to thwart any untoward incident.
“The parade of the Republic Day is generally led by Army personnel but they have refused to send any contingent to the Gandhi Maidan as they are supposed to join the R-Day parade in New Delhi. However, they have not been participating in the Patna celebration for the last two years,” Rana said.
One company each of Patna police, CRPF, CISF, SSB, STF, ITBP, homeguards, fire services, NCC boys and girls’ cadre, BMP and dog squad will take part in the parade.
