Amarnath Yatra, Day 1: Heavy rains delay commencement of pilgrimage

Weather played spoilsport on the first day of the Amarnath Yatra as heavy rainfall delayed the commencement of the annual pilgrimage, resulting in only 1,007 pilgrims paying obeisance to the naturally formed ice-lingam at the holy cave shrine. As for 1,735 other pilgrims, they are stranded at the Nunwan base camp.

Hindi fastest growing language in India; Kashmiri close second

Hindi was the fastest growing language in India at 25.19 percent adding close to 100 million speakers between 2001-2011. Kashmiri (22.97 percent), Gujarat (20.4 percent), Manipuri (20.07 percent), and Bengali (16.63 percent) are the second, third and fourth fastest growing languages, respectively, according to new census data.
